Members can have as many numbers as they wish as can be seen in the following. The draw takes place every month. Click for more details

A Blue Plaque for H.E. Bates

Wicksteed Charitable Trust sponsored a talk given by Jacqueline Puchtler who is a Kettering - born author of “The Candle People”. She is a librarian, artist with a first-class degree in the History of Art. Jacqueline is an ardent fan of H. E. Bates and she thrilled a large audience of H.E. Bates fans all keen to see a blue plaque dedicated to him placed at Kettering Railway station.
In his first autobiography, “The Vanished World” he writes of his first love being a girl called Con who he used to meet at Kettering Station on Platform 3. Quote; 'There is no practical reason whatever for there ever being erected a plaque on a house in London saying H. E. Bates lived here; but if there were any justice whatever in the history of railways and twentieth-century novelists there should be a plaque on the door of the first-class waiting-room on Platform 3 at Kettering station saying H. E. Bates loved here.'
Another blue plaque fundraising event is a Beer Tasting Evening on Thursday 6th April at Kettering Police Social Club starting at 7.30pm. Entrance £6 which includes a Talk on brewing. It is recommended to book tickets quickly as there are limited places.
The H.E. Bates talk raised about half the funds needed for a blue plaque and the “100 Club” is intended wholly to raise funds for more plaques around the town.
